Temuri Hvingia, b. 1978

Temuri Hvingia is an Estonian artist, curator, and gallerist with nearly twenty years of experience in developing local and international art programs. His creative journey began in the early 1990s and had distinctly shifted toward fine art photography by the early 2000s. Since 2006, Temuri has worked as a freelance photographer, contributing as a photojournalist and event photographer to both Estonian and international media outlets. Over time, his work expanded from traditional photography to experimental mixed media, leading to his active participation in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 2009.

In 2013, Temuri co-founded the NGO and contemporary art gallery OKAPI in Tallinn's Old Town. Today, the gallery has become an active part of the Estonian contemporary art scene, focusing on photography, glass art, graphic arts, and interdisciplinary practices. As a co-founder and initiator of the Tallinn photography festival On The Edge Fest, he has curated projects that explore geopolitical, social, and environmental themes through contemporary art.

In addition to gallery and exhibition activities, Temuri focuses on cross-border collaboration, cultural dialogue, and artist mobility. For example, in 2026, he represents the OKAPI gallery in the international art residency project Waves of Creativity, which is part of the Creative Europe programme. In his creative practice, he connects photography with other artistic disciplines, seamlessly interweaving curatorial work, cultural production, and international projects.
