Temuri Khvingia is an Estonian artist, curator, and producer with approximately twenty years of experience in developing both local and international art programs. His photographic journey began in the early 1990s, evolving into photographic art by the early 2000s. Since 2006, Temuri has worked as a freelance photographer, contributing to photojournalism and event photography for both Estonian and international media outlets. His interests later expanded to include mixed-media art forms, which led to his active participation in solo and group exhibitions since 2009.
In 2013, Temuri Khvingia co-founded NGO OKAPI in Tallinn's Old Town, which serves as a contemporary art gallery and exhibition space. Its primary focus is contemporary photography and glass art, along with graphic arts and interdisciplinary approaches. Since co-founding OKAPI, he has actively worked as a curator and producer, organizing and curating various exhibition projects in Estonia and internationally. While photography remains his primary medium, he skillfully combines it with other art disciplines through experimental methods.
As co-curator of OKAPI Gallery, Temuri is responsible for the photographic art sector, providing a platform for both emerging and established artists. His responsibilities also include leading international collaborative projects, concept development, and evaluation strategies at OKAPI, as well as possessing expertise in digital storytelling and artist mobility. Temuri also founded On The Edge Fest, a Tallinn photography festival focusing on geopolitical and environmental themes. OKAPI Gallery's activities include artist representation, exhibition organization, participation in art fairs, and initiating public projects to enrich art culture. The gallery's unique approach has garnered active public participation and positive feedback.
